Calvari is a bright, fruity red from Italy’s Tuscan flagship region, Chianti. Made from organically grown grapes (hand-selected for only the best quality), it’s quintessential Sangiovese: pleasantly medium-bodied with distinct notes of red cherry and earthy spice. The man behind the label? That would be fourth-generation winemaker Piergiorgio Castellani, whose quality obsession is reflected in just about everything he does (his residence is even in the center of his organic vineyard, where he can feel close to the land that nurtures his wines). His family has been exporting estate wines from their Tuscan home since 1903, crafting traditional wines that have been adored for generations, while embracing the latest winemaking innovations. Pair this lively red with a hunk of good Parmesan, hearty meat cuts grilled simply (olive oil, salt, and pepper), or with Italian classics such as spicy pizza or pasta.
