Located less than 100 yards from the ocean near Kobe Bay, Eigashima Shuzo holds Japan’s first whisky license, issued in 1919, and is among Japan’s smallest whisky producers. Serious malt production began in 1984 at the White Oak facility, with deliberately limited output to keep quality preeminent — making Akashi one of the rarer Japanese whiskies available.
