Bergstrom 'La Spirale' Pinot Noir 2022 - 750ml

The Bergström family has five estate vineyards totaling 70 acres in the Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountains and Ribbon Ridge AVAs, all biodynamically farmed. The most recent addition is La Spirale, a 22-acre vineyard planted in 2005 and purchased by the Bergströms in 2018. The vineyard faces southwest on a rolling slope that has more than 14 different marine sedimentary soils. Winemaker Josh Bergström fermented this Pinot Noir with indigenous yeast and 100 percent whole clusters in open-top, stainless steel tanks before aging the wine in 228-liter French oak barrels, 10 percent to 15 percent new. 1,163 cases made.

From vines planted in 2005, the 2022 Pinot Noir La Spirale features bursts of wild berry and rose petal on the nose, complemented by nuances of cardamom, orange peel and bitters. The medium-bodied palate offers concentrated, earthy fruit. It's structured by dusty tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a detailed finish.

Darkly alluring, the 2022 Pinot Noir La Spirale Vineyard tempts the imagination with a delicate bouquet that mixes blue and purple florals with a dusting of violet candies and grilled herbs. This opens with a lovely inner sweetness and textures of pure silk as a wave of ripe fruit flows across a stream of brisk acidity. It takes on a crunchy sensation through the finish, leaving a subtle coating of edgy tannins.

Winemaker Notes

Deep garnet in color. On the nose, red roses fall behind bright fresh strawberries, Genmaicha tea, and green peppercorns. Medium-bodied and balanced with new oak spice, the purity of fruit expression carries onto the palate, where it finds its balance with acidity and tannin and bursts with pomegranates and red currants. There is a tension that will evolve beautifully as this wine ages in the bottle. Drink mid-2025-2036.

La Spirale means the vortex; a symbol of life, creation, and the natural formative forces that guide our hands in our agricultural and winemaking pursuits at Bergström Wines. It is also the name of our newest estate vineyard on the Ribbon Ridge AVA, just a stone’s throw from our Le Pré du Col Vineyard and within eyesight of the winery on the Chehalem Mountains AVA. This complex and beautifully positioned Southwest facing 22-acre rolling slope includes more than 14 different marine sedimentary soil expressions. Planted by the Redman family and purchased by our family in 2018.
