Colonel E.H. Taylor Warehouse C Tornado Surviving is a Buffalo Trace limited release drawn from 93 special casks housed in Warehouse C — the landmark aging warehouse Taylor himself built in 1881. In April 2006, a massive tornado struck the warehouse, leaving nearly 24,000 barrels exposed to the natural elements. The sweltering Kentucky heat accelerated the aging process of the surviving barrels, producing a distinct, accelerated maturation profile unlike anything else in the EHT lineup.
E.H. Taylor Jr. is known as the Father of the Modern Bourbon Industry — a pioneer who introduced copper fermentation tanks, state-of-the-art grain equipment, and a first-of-its-kind steam heating system still used in barrel warehouses today, and who lobbied for the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. The Warehouse C Tornado Surviving release captures a one-time event in bourbon history: an entirely unrepeatable convergence of architectural damage, environmental exposure, and Kentucky climate that shaped a finite number of barrels in ways no controlled production could replicate.
