Dorothy Arzner Straight Rye Whiskey is part of the Family Coppola Great Women Spirits collection — a 3-year grain-to-glass Sonoma County straight rye honoring Dorothy Arzner, the first woman to direct a sound film (Manhattan Cocktail, 1928) and the woman who taught a young Francis Ford Coppola at UCLA and gave him the confidence to become a film director.
Arzner’s directing career spanned the 1920s to the early 1940s, and she launched the careers of actresses including Katharine Hepburn and Lucille Ball. The whiskey aged for three years in 53-gallon new charred oak barrels using a “high rye” mash bill of 70% rye berry/rye malt blend and 30% malted barley blend (caramel and Munich malts). Distilled twice on a hybrid still and aged in an un-insulated warehouse to allow more natural aging conditions, then non-chill filtered and proofed with pristine Napa Valley spring water.
