When I did my Court of Master Sommeliers test, there was a question that was just a picture of the ground, and we had to identify where it came from. Home Depot was not an option, so I chose Mosel, Germany because it looked like a pile of slate. I was correct, prost!
Slate is very important for this wine growing region because it is rich in minerals which are absorbed through the grape vines. This helps develop those lovely complex flavors found in the Riesling from this area.
Enter 'Dr. L' Riesling by Dr. Loosen, a mineral driven Riesling with a white stone fruit juicy mid-palate and crisp acidity. This wine has been on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list in the past. Also, their 2023 Erdener Treppchen Kabinett 2023 is on the list for 2025. These wines are consistent and of good quality!
Dr. L Riesling has been such a great pairing for my soup sessions! It can be my home comfort Tom Yum spicy sour soup, extra spicy chicken tortilla soup, or rich ramen from the restaurant or the make-it-at-home packs, it is such a pleasing addition!
