Espresso shots pouring from more than just your spouts? Looks like it's time to replace your group gasket.
Generally group gaskets should be changed yearly but can last much longer or shorter depending on:
- how often you use your machine
- how clean your grouphead is
- how long you leave your machine on for
Group gaskets are easy to replace if they are not too worn and thus we recommend to replace them often. If used too long the group gasket will harden and be extremely difficult to remove.
On the E61 grouphead machines the group gasket holds the shower screen in with compression--they must be removed together.
What is the difference between 8mm and 8.5mm?
The thickness of the gasket will determine the “lock-in” position of the portafilter handle. Ideally you want the handle to lock in directly towards you (6 o’clock position). If the gasket is too thin it will lock in too far. If the gasket is too thick it will not lock in enough.
