The Distillery

Macduff is a somewhat enigmatic distillery nestled along the Highland coast. While many enthusiasts recognize its whisky under the names Deveron or Glen Deveron, the "Macduff" label is exclusively used by independent bottlers. The distillery is renowned for its nutty and subtly meaty spirit, playing a significant role within the Dewar's portfolio.

Gordon & MacPhail

Gordon & MacPhail holds an almost legendary status in the world of Scotch whisky. Based in Elgin, the company has been led by four generations of the Urquhart family. At its core are the retail premises on South Street, which house a delicatessen, wine merchant, and The Whisky Room, offering over 1,000 malt whiskies. The family also owns and operates the Benromach Distillery in Speyside.

This Bottling

Distilled in 2004 and bottled on June 7, 2019, this expression matured for 14 years in a refill American hogshead as part of Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength range. Bottled at 60.7% ABV, only 238 bottles were produced, exclusively for the US market. This non-chill filtered, natural color release is a true single cask, small batch offering.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fragrant floral notes take center stage, complemented by fresh herbs and creamy toffee. Subtle sweetness emerges through vanilla aromas, balanced by mature oak and a hint of white pepper.

Palate: Creamy vanilla cheesecake flavors mingle with tangy bursts of tart orange peel. Toasted oak and delicate lavender develop, underpinned by a subtle warmth of chili.

Finish: Medium-bodied, with lingering sweet notes of malted cereals.
