Built in 1811 at the highest point in the city next to the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal. Glasgow’s Port Dundas distillery was a significant landmark - even though not many citizens knew what it was. In 1877, Port Dundas became a founding member of the grain distillers’ conglomerate DCL (the precursor for modern-day drinks giant Diageo).
Faced with mounting maintenance and potential upgrade costs, Diageo made the decision to concentrate grain whisky production at their recently expanded Cameronbridge distillery. In 2011, Port Dundas ceased production, and the site was demolished shortly after.
Drawn from a single refill bourbon cask, the total worldwide outturn: 223 bottles.
Nose: Shortbread made from real butter, Summerland apricot syrup and a hint of allspice.
Palate: Butterscotch, 'Nilla wafers and Crackerjacks.
Finish: Toasted coconut and toffee, cinnamon, and a faint sweetness.
700ml
48.4% ABV
