Piper-Heidsieck's Brut Rosé leans on an unusually large share of still red wine — sourced mainly from plots in Les Riceys — blended into a base of 50% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Meunier, and 25% Chardonnay, with a minimum of 25% reserve wines and a classic 8 g/l brut dosage. That red wine addition gives it real depth of red fruit character: the house's own notes promise an aromatic mix of blood orange, wild strawberry, black cherry, and blackberry jam, backed by rose and fresh almond. Independent critics have landed somewhere more measured, though — Wine Enthusiast's blind tasting found it soft and even-keeled with dry cherry, mineral, and toasty notes rather than anything showstopping, and Drinkhacker gave it a B+, finding the strawberry character a bit over-the-top against a slightly doughy body, and specifically pointed people toward Piper-Heidsieck's more prestigious Rosé Sauvage (which scored an A from the same reviewer, plus 93 points from Wine Spectator) if they want something more distinctive.
