History
W.L. Weller 12 Year Bourbon - 6 Pack is an award-winning twelve-year-old wheat bourbon that has been produced with tradition in mind at the renowned Buffalo Trace distillery. It is part of a series of bourbons named to commemorate The Wellers, who immigrated from Germany to Maryland in the 1740s. They established their roots as farmers and distillers before settling in Kentucky by the late 18th century. William Larue Weller, after returning from the Mexican-American War, innovated the bourbon industry by using wheat as a secondary grain in 1849, resulting in a softer, sweeter flavor profile. His dedication to quality led to the bourbon's immense popularity, and he famously marked his shipments with a green thumbprint for authenticity. Following Weller's death in 1899, Pappy Van Winkle took the reins, ultimately helping the brand evolve into the iconic bourbon beloved today. Buffalo Trace acquired the W.L. Weller brand in 1999 and has maintained its legacy, producing the bourbon with a recipe closely resembling Weller's original.
